    Kabuki superstar Ebizo Ichikawa XI returns to Sadlers Wells following his hugely acclaimed performances in 2006. He brings with him both long tradition as a direct descendant of the 17th century Ichikawa acting dynasty and a thoroughly modern glamour that has helped win new audiences for this riveting and highly stylised art form.

    Following the performance Japan Society members who have registered will be able to attend a private reception with some of the cast and crew from the show courtesy of Askanas Holt. Further information will be made available shortly.

    We have reserved tickets for Japan Society members for the Monday 14th June performance. Our original allocation of tickets has completely sold out however we are very lucky to have received a new batch of top tickets in the first circle Row G19 24 and Stalls Row H 11 to 19 at 46.80 pounds each discounted from 52.00 pounds. The deadline for booking is Wednesday 9th June 2010.

  • Visit to Loseley Park with Ms Rosemary Alexander
    Wednesday 14th July 2010 10.00am to 4.30pm

    Booking required 32 pounds per head cheques payable to The Hong Kong Society this includes a pre packed lunch entry fee coffees teas talks and lectures and also the travel to Loseley from Guildford station and back. Members can travel by own car or train we will pick up at Guildford mainline station 3 mins at 10:15.

    The walled garden at Loseley is considered to be one of the loveliest in the South East of England. The 2.5 acre Walled Garden from the mulberry tree reputedly planted by Queen Elizabeth 1 through to the recently developed Organic Vegetable Garden will give an insight into the development and management of Rose Herb Flower and Vegetable Gardens.

    There is a Moat Border and Terrace, from which members can view the developing Wild Flower Meadow. We will be shown round by the Head Gardener and advised by Rosemary Alexander.

    Provisional Programme for the day

    10:00am to 10:30am Assembly at Loseley Park. A map will be sent there is plenty of parking.

    10:15am Those travelling by train will be picked up from Guildford Station.

    10:30am Coffee or Tea in Chestnut Lodge. Brief history of Loseley Park.

    11.00am Guided tours of the house.

    12:00pm Return to Chestnut Lodge for pre-packed lunch during which Rosemary Alexander will give a talk Reducing the workload in your garden

    1:30pm to 2:30pm Guided tour of the Walled Garden with The Head Gardener.

    Until 4:00pm Free to wander.

    Akira Kurosawa and His Influence BFI Southbank 1 to 30 June features twelve of Kurosawas own works including the famous Seven Samurai Throne of Blood and Red Beard as well as a selection of films from directors inspired by Kurosawa.





    Rashomon will also be released at the Irish Film Institute Dublin and cinemas nationwide from 18 June.

    Okinawa Day 2010 will be held at Spitalfields London E1 on Saturday 26th June 2010 from 11:00 to 19:00. This is an admission free event and welcomes all visitors to enjoy the day in Spitalfields.

    Okinawa Day 2010 will demonstrate the wide range of Okinawan culture through the performing arts folk and classical songs accompanied by sanshin lute drumming performance and eisa dance and arts and crafts food tourism and so on.

    This event is strongly committed to promote Ryukyu culture in the UK in order to enhance the cultural understanding and relationship between the UK and Okinawa. More importantly we would like to make Okinawa Day a sustainable event each year in order to encourage a UK audience to participate in future Ryukyu events and to create a Ryukyu cultural hub in the UK.
